Welcome!
The Representation and Policy Lab, led by Professor Maraam Dwidar and housed within the Campbell Public Affairs Institute at Syracuse University's Maxwell School, develops scholarship on organizational advocacy and representative policymaking in American politics. Our group consists of faculty and student affiliates, and has been graciously supported by the Syracuse University Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Engagement (SOURCE), the Program for the Advancement for Conflict and Collaboration, and the Campbell Public Affairs Institute. Our work is motivated by a series of related questions: When are marginalized communities represented in American policymaking? How can interest group advocacy mediate representational bias in the policy process? What factors enhance the lobbying influence of interest groups serving vulnerable communities? Our current projects examine interest group collaboration and policy influence, intersectional advocacy in times of crisis, and descriptive representation among organizational leaders. More information on our ongoing projects and published work is available here, and more information on our team is available here. |
